Social exclusion happens when people or places suffer from a series of problems such as unemployment, discrimination, poor skills, low incomes, poor housing, high crime, ill health and family breakdown.
When such problems combine they can create a vicious cycle.
Social exclusion can happen as a result of problems that a person can face during their life but it can also start from birth.
Being born into poverty or to parents with low skills still has a major influence on future life chances.
More than a fifth of the working-age population is economically inactive and this is expected to increase with the economic climate.
Policy
It is the intention and policy of Alandale Group of Companies to work with our service level partners to achieve the goals and aspirations set out within our service agreements, and to regularly review and strive to continually improve upon these set targets.
As part of these targets the interviewing, the employment, the training, and the on-going programme of monitoring and development of social exclusion categories will be at the forefront of our operations. The following groups will be taken in to consideration:
- Unemployed
- Ethnic Minorities
- Homelessness and rough sleepers
- Ex-offenders
- Lone parents/teenage mothers
- Disabilities in particular mental health
- Older people (50+)
- School exclusions
We will work alongside our partners to continue to improve the opportunities and benefits that can be afforded to socially excluded groups and, in turn, maintain our induction and training programme, in conjunction with assisting in finding ‘pathways to work’.
